About Lucy

Lucy Freud was born in Paddington, North London to Katherine McAdam, fashion designer and Lucian Freud, British painter and is the third of their four children. She is the great granddaughter of Sigmund Freud, the eminent psychoanalyst.

From a young age Lucy excelled in the arts, winning competitions from the age of 10. She studied for her BA Hons degree in fine art at the University of the Arts, Wimbledon after having gained her foundation diploma in art and design at the Wimbledon school of art. Lucy was offered the opportunity to participate in life drawing classes at the Royal Academy Schools in London.

Lucy has given talks nationally and internationally on art, creativity and her practice. Lucy has also taught painting on many cruise ships, where she has proven to be very popular and on occasions been known to have had over 100 people in her class.

Lucy enjoys using a range of mediums and styles in her work. After painting a very detailed portrait for example, she often feels the need to switch to painting something more gestural, possibly abstract, hinting at form but open to interpretation.

Her works have been auctioned by Christies, Bonham’s and Sotheby’s. She also works on private commissions. Lucy has participated in both national and international art events around the world.
